*"The main objective of the PROTERO-LITHO project is to characterize the mechanical properties of the continental lithosphere at a relatively early stage of Plate Tectonics. South of Greenland, the magmatic province of Gardar exposes an intracontinental rift system dated to the Middle Proterozoic (~1.3 to 1.1 10 9 years). This remarkable system, little eroded and exposed in its initial geometry, deforms a petrologically homogeneous older crust (foliated granodiorites), of lower Proterozoic age. It presents novel features relative to more recent rifts of Phanerozoic age, such as the intrusion of giant mafic dykes, whose thickness can reach 600 m. This thickness is 30 to 200 times greater than the ones observed in active or recent volcanic systems. This suggests that the rheology of continental lithosphere in the Proterozoic was different from that of present-day lithospheres. We propose to image in 3D this lithosphere at the level of the southern rift of Gardar and to characterize the mode of injection and dilation of the giant dykes. Our ultimate goal is to reverse these results in terms of the rheology of the Proterozoic continental crust and lithosphere. This multidisciplinary and international study will contribute to constrain the evolution of the thermomechanical properties of the continental lithosphere in the context of the progressive cooling of the internal Earth."

2011-2016 — Baffin Bay
March 2016, artist residency in Qikiqtarjuak about today's sea ice, fascinating and fragile, the life she provides to the humans, their love for her. The artist-photographer Christian Morel takes a photo series featuring the Inuit in their relationship with the sea ice in the past, present and future. "I wanted to question this far too beautiful sea ice. Looking her in the eyes to guess the future of the young people from the North." Sea ice stories
